CCS GmbH and its project partner T-Systems International GmbH have jointly realised the Project CCS Telehealth East Saxony for the model region Eastern Saxony. This innovative and unique measure in Europe has developed an open and expandable telemedicine infrastructure for hospitals and outpatient clinics throughout the Eastern Saxony region.
The aim of tele medical offers is to provide patients with better medical care, especially in rural areas with less physician density. New technologies optimize the input and safe transfer of medical diagnostic and treatment data.
In this way, second opinions can be obtained in a secure and efficient manner and diagnoses can be secured. Patients can stay in contact with their supervising medical institution and thus can be supported even after discharge from the hospital at home. Treatment processes can be coordinated by the technical support and the medical exchange of views and experiences can be supported and accelerated.
Three different applications were developed on the telemedical infrastructure. These projects with working titles “Telecoaching” (treatment of cardiac insufficiency), “TeleStroke” (Stroke aftercare) and “Telepathology” (Second opinion of tissue samples) use the possibilities of the future infrastructure in different ways and thus show the range of possible applications for future health care projects.
The implementation of a unique IT-infrastructure allows direct communication between the different medical care providers. Thus, new tele medical applications can be accessed by providing basic services throughout the region, whether by general practitioner or speech therapist. The costly and time-consuming establishment of "isolated solutions" (self-contained systems) can thus be avoided.
While Carus Consilium Sachsen provided medical expertise in the project and also had a coordinating function, T-Systems developed the necessary technical infrastructure.
The European Union (EU) and the Free State of Saxony supported the "CCS Telehealth Ostsachsen" project from the Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and state funds in order to counteract demographic change and to secure the medical care of infrastructural weak regions (ERDF funding program »Innovative Approaches in the Healthcare Industry«).
