The Multiple Sclerosis Center at the University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus, the Chair for Information Systems, esp. System Development, at the Technische Universität Dresden as well as Carus Consilium Sachsen GmbH jointly develop an e-Health portal solution that is adapted to the medical requirements of the patients. The portal solution includes different (professional and informal) partners of medical care, supports necessary models of medical care and thus makes medical and supporting offers efficiently usable.
Multiple Sclerosis is the most common chronic inflammatory disease of the central nervous system. On the one hand the body’s own immune system attacks the insulating covers of the nerve fibres in brain and spinal cord, on the other hand it comes to the downfall of nerve cells. Life expectation of MS patients is reduced only in a small amount so that the disease that is firstly diagnosed in young adolescents persists for many decades. Development of neurological disabilities can be avoided by diagnosis in an early stage of disease and a then started, continually carried out therapy. This needs complex and always differentially applicable therapeutic treatment strategies, which are associated with a high supporting and supervising efforts.
Central aim of this project is the creation of an eHealth portal solution that is oriented on the disease picture MS and all connected medical patient needs. This includes the integration of different (professional and informal) health care partners. Necessary medical care models are supposed to be integrated and supported and thus supplemental health care offers shall be usable more efficiently.
To achieve this goal, the established MS-specific Multiple Sclerosis Documentation System (MSDS3D) is to be connected to the existing tele medical infrastructure CCS-Telehealth Ostsachsen (THOS). This offers an electronic medical file across all institutions for MS patients that can be used not only by the attending partners but also by the patients themselves.
Necessary medical diagnosis results (e.g. MRT, laboratory examinations) are wider and faster available; furthermore, double examinations are avoided. Clinical paths that were defined by MS Experts can be used in the full width of the neurological care. Diagnostic and therapeutic decisions are supported by experts. Information on pre-existing conditions, concomitant medication or therapeutic measures can be entered into the common case file by the different attending partners and the patient and retrieved from there at any time. Not least, this inclusion of the patient and all involved partners allows for a stronger commitment of the patient within the long and complex treatment process.
