Telehealth Network for Psychic Trauma Treatment in Saxony

The "Telemedical Network for Psychic Trauma Treatment in Saxony" (Tele-NePS) is designed to enable low-threshold and location-independent access to the treatment network for trauma patients, make expertise available across the board, and guarantee institution-wide documentation and coordination of the care process.

Serious emotional shocks can lastingly injure. Stressful experiences, such as serious accidents, natural disasters, physical and sexual violence, war, torture or escape can wound the psyche and cause trauma. Stress does not equal Trauma. Not always, a potentially traumatising event also triggers a post-traumatic stress disorder but reliving, high tension and avoidance of trauma-near impulses may occur and can be very agonizing.

The utilization of the health system due to physical disorders and other mental illnesses like fear, depression and addiction is significantly higher in the traumatized. Because of its complexity and high rate of chronification, subsequent trauma disorders cause a higher need for medical care. Guideline-oriented diagnosis and treatment is impeded by not coordinated care and not seldom cause lack of medical care. The already existing gap in medical care in psychotherapeutic treatments leads to long waiting periods for patients.

The “tele medical network for Psychic Trauma Treatment in Saxony” is supposed to improve sustainably the integrated treatment chain for traumatic disorders and flank using eMental-Health interventions. Telematic communication and interoperability should accurately support consulting and therapy in an early stage. The “tele medical network for Psychic Trauma Treatment in Saxony” and its regional partners as well as the existing tele medical infrastructure CCS- Telehealth Ostsachsen (CCS-THOS) make a significant contribution to the establishment of a secure integrated treatment network. The aim is to enable affected people low-threshold and location-independent access to the treatment network for trauma patients, make expertise available across the board, and guarantee institution-wide documentation and coordination of the care process.
